The tundra is a treeless biome in which low temperatures and short growing seasons limit plant growth above a certain height.

Alpine tundra animals adaptations. Arctic tundra plants can photosynthesize at low temperatures at low light intensities and for long periods of daylight. Humans expand their lungs in order to be able to take in more oxygen when they breathe which is scarcer at the higher alpine. Even humans when living in the alpine biome adapt to the environment.

Some including many of the larger animals such as Elk spend the relatively warmer summer and move to lower elevations in winter and some such as the Pika and Marmot have made the alpine home year round. The polar bear is one of most well known animals in the Alpine Tundra. Few alpine animals however contributed directly to the evolution of arctic tundra species because physical barriers prevented the migration of species and because alpine and arctic animals.

In summary the tundra is cold with little sunlight and rainfall. Most animal and plant life in this biome have insulation in the way of hair fuzz fur or feathers. The Tundra can also be found in the Alpine regions at high altitudes on moun-tains where trees dont grow.

PIKA These adorable mammals are found in the alpine tundra where they have plenty of food for herbivores such as grass fruits leaves flowers and roots. That are one to two years old. In Arctic and alpine tundras the number of species of plants and animals is usually small when compared with other regions yet the number of individuals per species is often high.
